Go Granny, Go!

Take a look at how amazing this simple crochet pattern can be when worked in a gorgeous yarn like Noro's Kuryeon Sock. Just one example of how to update this old favorite is pictured here, but you really should come by the shop and see my smaller squares worked in Noro's Silk Garden Sock...oh my gosh!!! They're awesome!

Join our Thursday Night Commuknity Stitchers!

Traditionally, Thursday evening is when stitchers gather at Serendipity Needleworks to work on their latest PIPs (projects in progress) for a time of fun and camaraderie, but we're adding a new twist! Every Thursday evening - from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., we'll gather at Serendipity to work on charitable projects aimed at giving back to our community. Of course, there's the Yarn Bowl Challenge (knitting baby caps for premature and high risk infants), but we'll also be working on chemo caps, baby blankets, prayer shawls, and a host of other items to provide love and hope to those in need. Feel free to call the shop at (205)758-0108 if you have any questions or would like more information.

Saturday afternoon Sit and Stitch (2:00 - 4:00) will remain a time for coming to Serendipity to work on your PIPs and see what your other stitching friends are making!

Last call for Jitterbug and the AbFab Throw kits!

Sad news from one of our distributors...Colinette (maker of Jitterbug and the Absolutely Fabulous Throw kits) has severed ties with their US distributor, so that means we have no American source for their products. All we have in stock right now is all we'll have for a pretty good while, I imagine, so if you're a Jitterbug fan, now is the time to "stock up". We also have 2 AbFab Throw kits left: Nightfall and Rustic. If you'd like to place an order over the telephone for Jitterbug or a throw kit, please call the shop at (205)758-0108. We'll be glad to assist you!

New Needlepoint Canvases Already Arriving From Market!

Darling hand painted needlepoint canvases reminiscent of days gone by would add a touch of Victorian elegance to your holiday decorations come December. Inspired by vintage postcards, we have a wide selection from which to choose.

Also available are designs for Halloween that feature Victorian children dressed in festive Trick-or-Treat costumes! We have loads of specialty fibers that make stitching these cuties extra fun and, as always, we'll gladly help you select decorative stitches to really bring your canvases to life!

Better late than never.....

Yep...it's been almost 2 months since I boldly announced that I'd be blogging away with you about what's up at Serendipity, but I guess it's better late than never!

I had a terrific time at Market in Columbus, Ohio last week. Not only did I see all the gorgeous new yarns, needlepoint canvases, and ever so much more, but I got to take a class with Lily Chin on how to custom fit existing patterns! (Hint: Be on the look-out for a new workshop with that topic this fall!)

New merchandise is already starting to arrive and I've planned our deliveries so that we receive new goodies every week for the next several MONTHS!!! I'm also working on a new class schedule that will feature classes beginning the first full week in July, so keep an eye on the Workshop page on the website for more information.

Here we go...

I'm delving into the world of blogging...I never thought I'd say that, but here we go! Since opening Serendipity Needleworks in 2003, I've kept in touch with you by sending out newsletters, but we're embarking on a new adventure - one in which you can be a part of daily life at Serendipity. Whether you live in Tuscaloosa or Timbuktu, you'll be able to keep up with all the latest news as it happens.

Our cozy little shop is a fun-filled place. Our community of stitchers love to share their passion for their hobby and I hope we can convey some of the warmth and camaraderie found at Serendipity with you. Of course, we'd love to SEE you in person if you're ever in Tuscaloosa, too.
